Chennai Japan Film Festival - 2025


The Chennai Japan Film Festival 2025, jointly organized by Consulate -General of Japan in Chennai and the Japan Foundation, in association with ICAF was held from 31 January 2025 to 02 February 2025 at Tagore Film Centre, R.A Puram.
The Chennai Japan Film Festival was Inaugurated by our esteemed Consul-General of Japan, Mr. Muneo Takahashi on 31 January 2025 at 6.00pm by lighting the lamp along with Mr. Suresh Nair A the Joint Secretary of ICAF and Mr. Prakash S the Treasure of ICAF.
It was memorable celebration with film enthusiasts, special guests, and general audience.
The three-day Film Festival screened 5 films in total.
Day 1 – 31 January 2025
Following the inauguration ceremony first move was screened.
1. Ito (Itomachi) (6.15pm) - emotional, motivational and feel-good film (Audience review)
It was a houseful show; we had audience of all ages and particularly young college students turned up in large numbers.
Day 2 – 01 February 2025
Day two of the Film Festival had two movies screened.
1. Children of the Sea (2.00pm) - animation was extraordinary and had great visual impact. (Audience review)
2. Show me the way to station (4.00pm) – Very emotional move showing love for pets. Depicted the love between the dog and the girl beautifully. (Audience review)
Day two was also a house full show with viewers of all ages, since both films screened where children’s film, we had children as audience in huge number. Children enjoyed both the films.
Day 3 – 02 February 2025
Day three also had two films screened,
1. Dreaming of the Meridian Arc (2.00pm) – Interesting to know about how first map of Japan was made. (Audience review)
2. The Fish Tale (4.00pm) – beautiful film based on Autobiography of a Marine biologist, film clearly depicted the love he had for Ocean and fishing. (Audience review)
Day three also had mixed audience of all ages. Audience enjoyed both the films.
All three days witnessed audience of all age groups walking in to experience the essence of Japanese Cinema on big screen. Audience on all the 3 days enthusiastically turned up to give their appreciations, reviews, and feedbacks of films they enjoyed watching. The Chennai Japan Film Festival 2025 turned out to be a huge success catering to screening of films to audience of all types and all age group.
