Celebrating Japanese Music, Tourism, and Education at IIT Madras Saarang World Fests in Chennai

On January 10, 2025, the vibrant beats of Japan met the electrifying spirit of Chennai at the World Fests, part of the 51st edition of Saarang, the annual cultural festival of IIT Madras.

Supported by the Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai, the Japanese music group Minichestra took center stage and captured the hearts of an energetic crowd. Dressed in traditional Tamil attire - Saris and veshtis -Minichestra opened with a powerful tribute - the Indian National Anthem, earning heartfelt applause. Following by soulful nostalgic Japanese melodies and transitioned seamlessly into trending J-pop and anime songs. With each performance, the energy in the hall soared, as hundreds of college students joined in the celebration of music, culture, and friendship.

Adding to the cultural exchange, the Culture and Information Section of the Consulate set up an engaging booth to promote Japan Tourism, education opportunities, and MEXT scholarships. A fun selfie booth was also installed, where fans eagerly snapped photos with the band, creating lasting memories of this cross-cultural celebration.
