JAPAN meets Madras Art Guild at VR Chennai
The Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai joined the Madras Art Guild 2025 as a Program Partner for the first time, bringing various Japanese elements to the fourth edition of the month-long Art Festival at VR Chennai. The festival was inaugurated on February 14 by Mr. Muneo Takahashi, the Consul-General of Japan in Chennai, who lit the traditional Kuthu Vilakku and unveiled the Kala Car.
Consul-General Mr. Muneo Takahashi also inaugurated the art exhibition titled Transcending Boundaries, which featured a dedicated enclosure for Japanese art and culture, showcasing kite-based artwork, Uchikake, a Zen Garden, Bonsai, Sumi painting, and more.
The inauguration was followed by the fashion show Threads of Harmony by multidisciplinary artist Kasuko Barisic-san. It was a visual delight to witness old kimonos reborn as saris and traditional Indian saris transformed into artistic Yukata and Kimono.
