We are delighted to announce that the 3rd edition of the Chennai Japan Expo 2026 will be held on 31 January and 1 February 2026 at VR Chennai, Anna Nagar. About the Expo
The Chennai Japan Expo is organized by the Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai, in collaboration with JETRO, The Japan Foundation, ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI (Tamil Nadu Centre), and VR Chennai as the venue partner.
The Expo features a rich and engaging lineup of exhibitions, presentations, workshops, and interactive activities. Visitors can enjoy hands-on workshops,  sado (tea ceremony) demonstration, ikebana (flower arrangement) displays and demonstration, and captivating traditional Japanese music and stage performances.

 
 

Day 1 (31 January: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) Inauguration Ceremony

Inauguration Ceremony by Mr. TAKAHASHI Muneo, Consul-General of Japan in Chennai.

The Expo Inauguration Ceremony will be graced by esteemed guests including:

A Professional Tsugaru Shamisen performer from Japan, along with artists, educators, industry leaders, and all enthusiasts of Japan - everyone is welcome! 

The Inauguration Ceremony will be followed by a lively program featuring J-pop music, anime songs, a Tamil song performed by J-Hind, traditional Japanese music by a Yamaha Music demonstrator, and Tsugaru Jonkara Bushi as well as anime songs performed on the Tsugaru Shamisen. 
 

Day 2 (1 February: 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.) Stage Performances & Program

Visitors can look forward to an exciting stage program featuring:
  • Japanese songs performed with the Tsugaru Shamisen (a traditional Japanese stringed i instrument) 
  • Anime song performances by the Chennai Karaoke Band (CKB)
  • J-pop songs and Tamil song by J-Hind 
  • Yosakoi dance performance (a special traditional dance from Kochi Prefecture)
  • Ikebana (flower arrangement) demonstrations
  • Sado (Tea Ceremony) demonstrations 
  • Cosplay show by the Chennai Anime Club, and more
